Bethpage Black Golf Course

I played Bethpage Black once back in 2010 and it was a fun and exciting round. I always enjoy playing a course that we've watched the Pros play on television. I find it adds to the experience and makes one appreciate how skilled the professionals are! The course conditions were excellent and I managed to shoot a respectable (for me) 92 from 6700 yards.

I visited Bethpage's Black course a couple times, the most recent was back in Aug of '22. Although we were in a slight drought, the majority of the course was in excellent shape. First thing you should know if you plan to play the Black course at Bethpage : Not only is the course a real challenge to play(strategically), but it is also a physical challenge like no other place I have walked. Be mentally & physically prepared to play this course. No carts are allowed, caddies are a must, not only for their course knowledge but also for carrying your bag around. . . well, I guess that is unless you are a young whipper snapper, which at over 50, I am/was not, & you enjoy lugging your clubs up steep never-ending inclines. The course has many elevation changes & numerous blind shots. As mentioned, this course is a physical grind that will eventually affect your mental state & or acuity during play. If you are an average player, perhaps 13-19 handicap?, I would probably suggest you choose a different course at Bethpage. The Black course will be difficult for the 8-10 handicapper, likely to shoot something like 87-95 or so. Thus, the higher handicapper is likely to not be in a good place & this will make the day longer & likely rather frustrating. The facilities are very good & you will enjoy both the food & drink that is available.

The best golf experience in the world. After the round, you feel like you conquered Mount Everest of Golf. Love how traditional and simple the halfway house is as well. The top of the list for great golf golf course. ⛳️
