Garden City Golf Club (not to be confused with nearby Garden City Country Club, also off Stewart Avenue, and also a Walter Travis design) is home to one of the top-rated and finest championship golf courses in New York state. 1899 Deveruex Emmet design & Walter Travis alteration Club has hosted 5 USGA Championships, 1 Walker Cup, a number of MGA events, as well as five National Intercollegiate Golf Championships. Travis, only son of a widow who emigrated from a penal colony, Won the World Amateur in 1904, added numerous bunkers to make the course supremely Penal in nature,
