Shortly after moving back to Wyoming in 2018 and choosing Sheridan to set down roots, I joined Powderhorn as a Young Family member at age 32. Golf was my main reason and the 27 hole course is outstanding and well kept. Although the surrounding area also have great public courses in Kendrick, Buffalo & Hidden Bridge (9 holes), a Powderhorn membership was very affordable for the unlimited golf. I also wanted to network with other young professionals who shared the same way of thinking. The Powderhorn has other amenities including fitness center, tennis/pickleball courts, pool & hot tub , state of the art golf simulator and bar/restaurant with friendly staff year round.
In the winter, the list of amenities shrinks to bar/restaurant, fitness center, golf sim & hot tub.
So why is this review two stars?
The reason is mainly due to the beautiful 12 person large outdoor hot tub has not worked 2 of the 3 last winters.
1. Winter 2019 was closed due to young kids (some non-member's and some members) partying after-hours and abusing access by climbing through the water feature and leaving a mess. Therefore all adult members suffered when Powderhorn management decided to drain the tub as a solution. Need to unwind after a long day of work. skiing or snowmobiling? Nope sorry closed, excuse after excuse.
2. After multiple cordial emails and even volunteering to be security patrol
on random nights, the hot tub was successfully open over winter of 2020 with no known issues. Thank you!
3. In fall of 2021, a mysterious crack formed and hundreds gallons of water started disappearing to "unknown" locations. After more amicable emails and despite holding back high agitation, management committed to fixing by December 2021. I just drove by tonight on March 8, 2022 and the same 3 road cones marking some sort of progress have not moved.
Why post a review this long for a hot tub not working? I am beyond frustrated by Powderhorn & TROON's handling of the situation. In summer 2021, I bought my first house (a cottage) within walking distance of Clubhouse and am really happy. HOA dues are reasonable at $350/month for snow removal & landscaping work performed helping maintain the property. For an additional $350 roughly in membership dues, what am I paying for in the winter? I go to a separate gym and make modest meals at home Monday-Thursday most of the time. Not much!
As soon as I joined Powderhorn back in 2018, I was excited to recruit family & friends to come visit. Two different young friends joined. On several occasions, we rented another cottage out next door so guests could stay close by. Now after all of this hot tub headache, I enjoy guests staying with me but am I proud or excited to take them to Powderhorn Clubhouse No.
On February 17, 2022, I decided to put my Young Family membership on hold indefinitely.
No one from management has picked up the phone in an effort to retain my membership. I received a text from one leader asking to push my emails up the TROON corporate ladder but no results. Everyone must be satisfied with all the new construction around (some of which are non-members). Two other close friends who are members have experienced the same lack of customer service. One family put their membership on hold for the same reasons and one attempted to cancel and management told them where to sign. What!? How are you in business in 2022 with this approach? Apparently there were proposals being discussed to build a new fitness center. Not sure how I see the reasoning behind it when we are unable to operate what we currently have.
In closing, I sincerely enjoy living in the Powderhorn but simply am unable to keep paying for an amenity consistently closed. Current members, if you share the same frustration, voice your thoughts and hopefully together we can "right the excuse ship."
UPDATE 6/7/22: HOT TUB FIXED! Thank you to our new GM!
