I traveled to Oxford from out of town with a group of old friends for the weekend for our annual guy’s trip. The group decided to play a round of golf, but I recently had shoulder surgery so am unable to play. I wanted to still tag along if possible to hangout/watch some friendly competition. So we called the course a week in advance to determine if this was possible. They said they wouldn’t give me my own cart but I was perfectly welcome to walk with the group to hangout and watch. No problem by me, I’ll get my steps in and enjoy the camaraderie. We show up, check in at clubhouse, I remind the girl at the desk of the conversation and ask again if it is acceptable for me to walk with the group just to watch, she says no problem and we are good to go. We had 2 groups with back to back tee times, so I would not be holding anyone up walking between our groups watching. We get to the 2nd tee box and a club ranger shows up to escort me off the premises, telling me under no circumstance was I welcome to tag along or walk with either group, and I needed to get in his cart immediately like I was a criminal with a warrant out for my arrest. I politely told him we had confirmed in advance to ensure it was okay, I was happy paying a green fee to walk and watch, and showed my surgical repair to prove I wasn’t trying to pull one over on anybody, I was just wanting to tag along with my buddies. To no avail, he simply re-stated “grab your stuff and hop in the cart.” I politely said yes sir, walked myself back to the parking lot, and had to find a ride back to the house we were staying at since I carpooled with the group. Needless to say, I was appalled at the lack of professionalism and communication and will not return.

Outstanding. Great course, great conditions, friendly staff, great value. Starter on Friday morning was incredible. Pointed us to the first and tenth tees. Gave us tips on certain holes. Greeted us after 9 and 18 and made sure we were enjoying and had enjoyed ourselves! Cannot give a high enough rating. If you’re within three hours driving distance of this course, it’s a must play!

Course in great condition. Really enjoyed it. Pro shop staff is courteous. Hard to get early tee times. Club members snatch those up to 30 days in advance. The public is welcome. Check it out.

Overall I have to give the Ole miss golf course a 6.4/10. Layout gets a 6.8/10 because most of the fairways were very straight, there were not many challenges besides a couple water features along side a huge fairway, and a few shallow bunkers. Most times you can look left or right and see another fairway. It's also right next to an airport which can be a positive or a negative depending how you look at it, I like planes, but when I'm golfing I prefer to feel like I'm in a natural area, the sound of airplanes and occasional sirens doesn't create that natural outdoors effect. Course conditions get a 6/10, it's well kept in most areas but I had to dock some points for the greens being inconsistent, some rolled really quick and others were medium. And the greens weren't spruce, they were pretty dry and short. I was at a higher end course a week before being here and their greens were lush and had some spring to them in comparison. For the price and the amount of business, I was expecting the course to be more premium, but it was slightly below average. Which is hard for me to say because I like ole miss but can't give it credit for hype alone. In the miscellaneous category, the carts are terrible, they spent a lot of money to get these fancy carts but they glitch and stutter due to the gps system. The course was really dry when I played and I had to back out of some areas I should've been able to drive, the gps keeps you off the fairways like a premium course would but it's not a lush course like the premium courses are at this current time. I would take a good ol gas cart without a computer any day compared to these carts, otherwise they should ease up on the micro managing gps system. Also I got the grilled pimento cheese which was 6 bucks, and it was tiny and didn't come with anything else. Defintely got jipped on that one. Overall, I was excited for the course as it really looked nice from the drive up, but was underwhelmed to say the least. You can tell they can make the course lush and well kept if you just look at their golf team's practice course. For the amount of money they're bringing in, and the gps system on the car keeping you off the fairways, the whole course should look that nice. In the Oxford area I would recommend Kirkwood national, or Mallard point if you're looking for a more challenging and scenic layout, and course conditions at those 2 courses were even slightly better than at ole miss. I played all three this week, checkout my reviews for those courses on their pages as well! They're worth the 30 minute drive!

Beautiful course! Great weather and friendly staff. Close to the stadium, you could head the crowd sometimes, pretty cool. Challenging but a lot of fun to play! Will be back for sure!
